My original aim was to become a painter and I gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the UWE in Bristol. Whilst at college I discovered printmaking, which then became my main interest. In 2001 I began teaching printmaking, painting and drawing, working in the community and at Exeter College.Since making my first mirror about five years ago, I’m afraid that my printing press has gathered dust. I now work almost entirely with mosaic and enjoy teaching it to others. I have always admired both ancient and contempory mosaics and now get immense satisfaction from making them myself. Through this medium I can explore the relationships between colour, shape and texture in a way that gives me great pleasure. When creating an abstract design I like to allow the forms to suggest themselves and grow organically, rather than my having a clear idea of how the finished piece will look before I begin. I aim to create a sense of flowing movement within my compositions, taking my inspiration from the natural world and artists such as: Paul Klee, Gustav Klimt and Hundertwasser. I am a regular exhibiter at Opus Mosaic gallery in Exeter, Willow restaurant in Totnes and take part in TRAIL every year.I currently have work for sale in Blue Indigo gallery in Teignmouth and at the Ariel Centre in Totnes, . I will be starting autumn art classes very soon and if you are interested please get in touch.
